Oscar Zoe Saldaña apologized to the Mexicos who were injured by controversial musical Emilia Pérez.
The star took the best supporter of actress Oscar for her role in the movie Netflix and the press room after her win, a journalist told her that the movie was “really offensive for us Mexicans”.
The film, about a Cartel Boss seeking to move on to a woman, has undergone the last months after this complaints are an inuthentic and stereotyped description from a staff member made up of most Europeans such as French-director Jacques Audiard.
“I am very sorry that you and so many Mexicans feel hurt,” he said. “That’s not our goal. We spoke from a place of love.”
Saldaña, who became the first American actor who came from the Dominican who came from an Oscar, also continued to say that he did not agree with the criticism. “I’m not sharing your opinion,” he said. “For me, the heart of this movie is not Mexico. We make a movie about friendship. We make a movie about four women.”
She continued: “These women can be Russian, can be Dominican, can be black from Detroit, may be from Israel, may be from Gaza. And these women are very universal women who have difficulty day -day, but are trying to survive systematic oppression and try to find the most true voice. with love and respect, [to have] A great conversation with how Emilia could do it. “
In his speech, Saldaña was honored with his legacy. “My grandmother came to this country in 1961,” he said. “I am the proud child of immigrant parents with dreams and dignity and hard -working hands.”
The film led the night with 13 nominations that only won two for Saldaña and for the original song. It has been the subject of a number of controversies, also the backlash from the LGBTQ+ community and for the lead of Karla Sofia Gascón’s history of inflammatory tweets.
Audiard had earlier apologized to those who were hurt: “If there are things that seem surprising to Emilia Pérez then I apologize … The cinema doesn’t give answers, it only asks questions. But maybe the questions at Emilia Pérez are incorrect.”
Sean Baker’s anora eventually won the most five awards with five wins, including for the best picture.
