Basic events
It looks like it will be another race led by McLaren in Shanghai tomorrow. That is unless big names like Vrstappen and Hamilton can develop some magic, or in fact if George Russell can create the kind of speed we just saw from him in the final Q3 lap.
We will get the full report from Giles Richards to qualify shortly and lower it below. So far, that is from us, thanks to joining this live blog – we will be back to cover the career tomorrow morning at a similar time. Bye!
Piastri celebrates the first F1 pole
Oscar Piastri also believes his vehicle was “alive” in Q3 and admitted that he was “feeling pumped” thereafter.
“This is the best feeling in the world,” he said at the kind of speed of his McLaren is clock today. “I’ll take Shanghai’s fastest lap.”
“It is incredibly believed to be honest,” says a satisfied Russell. “It all lived on that last lap and it was just a fun P2. I knew it was a good lap but I was surprised when I crossed the line to be between the two McLarens.”
He said no one knew if it would be a one-stop or a two-stop career tomorrow.
Lando Norris is not very gutted with P3:
“It always fails if I’m not on the pole but it deserves Oscar right now. A couple of mistakes again, but I feel like I’m more comfortable in the car, so one step in the right direction.”
Oscar Piastri celebrates the pole position with his team. He continued to quickly in full qualifications and had that position ahead of his McLaren Lando Norris colleague. Credit should also go to George Russell who found some serious speed at his final lap to break McLaren’s dominance and find a place in the front row.
We will get some reactions from the drivers as soon as possible.
Full qualified stance

So We are at the final lap of the final stage of qualification. Who is the fancies pole? Piastri or Norris? We will know.
We will run throughout the stance shortly …
Hadjar and Tsunana was used soft tires for the first running in Q3 and they sat in the seventh and eighth – but they were hoped to drive faster.
There was a little traffic in the Pit Lane, Verstappen and Hadjar reached each other.
The two races of bull is really looking, really good on the weekend and can be featured in the second row of grid.
After the first Q3 laps, Piastri led Norris by the extent of a hair. It is neck and neck between two mclarens.
“This is where we get at least fuel, most power, greatest attacks,” Sky Sports’ Martin Brundle says a Q3 session to come. He is not wrong. It’s all about pure speed today. Can anyone have a Norris? Drivers will return to the track.
Q2 is over.
Norris again in McLaren is the fastest at 1 min 30th, with Verstappen P2 and Piastri P3. Hamilton came down to the eighth.
The five drivers we lost, placed on 11-15 in qualified, were Stepban Ocon (P11), Nico Hulkenberg (P12) Fernando Alonso (P13), Lance Stoll (P14) and Carlos Sainz (P15).
Norris and Piastri led the Q2 from Verstappen to the third and Russell in fourth But there is still time for a quick tire change and another lap before this session ends. Sainz, Alonso, Hadjar, Ocon and Stoll are under five and are currently in danger of falling as he stands.
Hadjar is really fast in Q1 but insists on comparing this latest session.
Those hours decrease up to 1 min 31 seconds And it can still dip a tick below that mark.
Liam Lawson is chatting in Sky Sports about his struggles, after knocking on Q1, at P20. “It’s really tough. The window is really small but actually that’s not a reason. I have to get a handle on it. It’s a messy session but it’s not good enough. We should be fast. I have to get to the top of it. To drive a car of Formula 1 take 100 percent confidence in what you do. It’s not just enough.”
There are many tribes for Eddie Jordan who are pouring out this weekend. F1 has lost one of the most -iconic and beloved numbers.
Top five in Q1:
-
Lando Norris
-
Isack Hadjar
-
Yuki Tsunana
-
George Russell
-
Max verstappen
We will soon get the green light to start Q2.
We lost Liam Lawson, Gabriel Bortoleto, Jack Doohan, Ollie Bearman and Pierre Gasly.
Lawson is dead in qualifying … what a struggle ahead of his Red Bull career for New Zealander.
Drivers take checkered flags As the Q1 season approaches. We will bring you qualified stands when they are all in it.
Hamilton quickly looked throughout the weekend, But make a little mistake in a corner now, which he lost the speed. There is no mess from his great rival Verstappen to this day. He has been -clocked the fastest time in Q1 and headed back for the garage. It seems like this is the next time it can change a fair even.
Max Verstappen sank under Piastri’s qualified time Together with Isack Hadjar and Yuki Tsunana in bull races that both look pretty fast. Liam Lawson in the other Red Bull is having a bit of difficulty today.
Norris still hasn’t been clocked for an hour … It would be nice to see if he could challenge the top of that leaderboard.
The first times of the qualified lap will enter. Oscar Piastri clocks the time of just under 1 min 32 seconds, which is slightly ahead of Hamilton. The rest is over 1 min 32 secs mark, Russell and Kimi Antonelli are third and fourth respectively as it stands. Norris’s lap does not count because he must cross the white lines; Versstappen is finally out.
Carlos Sainz, Now with Williams of course, one of the first ones to spend a qualified time. George Russell and Max Vrstappen are not on the track yet. Jack Doohan has a problem with early doors, through its looks.
We are under the way. It was very, very hot in Shanghai but the wheels were still soft for almost all drivers in this first qualified session.
In the standards of construction McLaren (35) led to Mercedes (34) by a single point, with Red Bull (24) and Ferrari (17) a little more. Can any other construction send a message? Alpine and Haas still have no point.

PREAMBLE
Morning all and welcome to our Chinese Grand Prix coverage. It will qualify for Shanghai first today. But the news that we can bring to you that Lewis Hamilton has his first win over Ferrari Red – he led from the front to claim success in the Sprint race, with Oscar Piastri Second and Max Verstappen third.
“This is the breed of Sprint not the main but it is a great rock step,” said a Beaming Hamilton, who announced his team made some changes to their vehicle this weekend. He may be 40 but he still makes waves in this sport, now in the Italian iconic car.
It is amazing -it is amazing to see if Hamilton can maintain this type of speed when the qualified starts later this morning. Lando Norris will have the hope of building his win over the Australian GP curtain-raiser last week with signs that are also good for fellow McLaren driver Piastri. It has become a stuttering start to the season for Vrstappen and Red Bull, so they are diligently laying some kind of marker.
Let’s do it. The qualification begins shortly.
