Nick Kyrgios shed tears after his latest comment that experienced a major blow when he was forced to retire to hurt Indian Wells.
Australia’s injury was struck from a first-round match against the Dutchman Botic Van de Zandschulp due to a proper pulse injury while riding 7-6 (9-7), 3-0 at the BNP Paribas Open on Thursday night.
Kyrgios, who had previously held a set point at the first-set tiebreaker, became clearly angry while talking to his trainer before wiping the tears and walking to Van de Zandschulp to agree to the match.
“I’m not very confident that I can play now, be honest,” Kyrgios told the post-match. “Two days ago in training I had to stop my training because I felt pain in my wrist. I felt like it was ok to take a court. It was a bit worse … It started to feel sharp pain in my wrist.”
The 29-year-old skill session in Indian Wells earlier this week was also cut off due to pulse pain, and he said at the time he didn’t “catch a break at the moment in my body”.
Kyrgios will face Novak Djokovic in the second round with victory over Van de Zandschulp, but will now continue his battle to overcome a long-term pulse injury.
“This process is probably one of the biggest challenges I face in my life,” Kyrgios said of his emotional reaction to the court. “In fact, it’s not too bad, but for my tennis career, it’s at the largest.
“Just a lot of work that comes in when I go home or if I don’t play, it’s not fun. I know I can’t really do it to try and go back and play.

“I think this is just the amount of work I put on and I still have so much discomfort in my wrist. That’s why I guess why I was a bit emotional to the end because this is one of my favorite tournaments.”
Former World No 13 was also forced to withdraw from the first Australian opening in January that motivated him to say that he was probably playing his last match in uniting Melbourne Park.
The Australian Open is Kyrgios’ first look in a Grand Slam since reaching the 2022 US Open Quarter-Finals, as his career has been from the injuries of the wrist and knee injuries.
