‘I cycled through flower fields stretching until eye visible’: Favorite Favorite European Spring Break | Top 10s

Winning Tip: Cycling a quieter Netherlands flower route

In the Netherlands the Keukenhof near Lisse is known for its beauty bulbs in the spring. But if you’re looking for a cycling holiday far away from the crowds you better head to 40 miles north in Cop Van Noord-Holland. Here you will find the largest conflicting bulbs in the country. April is the best time to spin in millions of colorful crocus, daffodils, hyacinths and tulips. Between the Schagen, Den Helder, Den Oever and MiddenMeer you will see the flower fields as the eye can see. I highly recommend the Dune Road from Callantsoog to Den Helder. Most paved surfaces are easy to rotate and are great for any level of fitness.

Palermo in rose

Palermo … The perfect tonic for winter blues. Photo: Getty pictures

If there is a tonic for winter blues, then the heat and dazzling pink brightness of Palermo in May will wonder you where it has been all your life. The Sicilian capital is made for simply wandering around its stunning architecture, a realistic ice-cream confection of styles from the ancient world. We stay near Quattro Canti (a Baroque Square) where you can venture from all four corners and simply go for it. Former Libreria Dante, called Bisso Bistrot, serves a delicious Pasta Alla Norma for any desperate vegetarians. Our meanderings took us to a house where you could still see the crushed causes of the bombing of World War II, and the Palazzo Conte Federico – one of the oldest buildings in Palermo. We also enjoyed the amazement of Antonio Pasqualino International Puppet Museum – a requirement for any big kid. For those with a macabre fascination, Capuchin catacombs are for you. It was in Palermo that I first had Pistachio Ice-cream, where I just died and went to heaven.

Day and Sea Breeze in the paths on the coast of Mallorca

Spring mallorca is the perfect temperature for coastal walks. I recommend trying the East Coast if you haven’t been in the past – starting with Cala Domingos and working with Porto Christ, 10 miles farther north. The land is rocky but a bit flat, so it’s easy to walk with beautiful trainers. There are many beautiful coves that stop if you make an early sea sinking, with fewer tourists than the main towns on the island. The Sun and Sea Breeze always won for me.

Cider with picos, spain

‘Stunning when still snow-capped’ … Picos de Europe, Asturias. Photo: Sebastian Wasek/Alamoy

In Asturias, Northern Spain, take a bracing wild dip, walk a stunning mountain range and welcomed with a gargantuan part of the enthusiastic Fabada Stew and delicious fresh local cider. You can see yourself alone in the Playa fluvial olla de San Vicente before summer audiences, and enjoy peace and tranquility with sinking in its freezing crystal water. Picos de Europe is in their most amazing when still snow from winter and more manageable without the summer sun’s rays. Trek the Route Del Cares and get to the Lagos de Covonga and the stunning sanctuary of the Catholic next.

Frogs and orchids in Tuscany

Tuscany’s gentle hills. Photo: Alam

South of Siena, the Crete Senesi region of Tuscany offers gentle hills, which in the spring is the most varied shade of green. The hills are dotted with white-gray clay patches that look like small doors on the hills. The fields are filled with many flowers, including several types of wild orchids, and small lakes with frogs that make a funny racket. I stayed in the small hammer of Isola D’Arbia where a number of walking paths bent. I spent the happy days walking loops in different directions by naked clay fields, heath and grass, and visited the quiet medieval Borghi (villages) such as Cuna, Monteroni D’Arbia and BuenconVento along the way.

Spring to rocks, Spain

The town of Chulilla is popular with climbing. Photo: Cavan/Alamoy photos

Two years ago, we spent an early spring week in Chulilla, a small town away from a mountainous limestone, almost an hour’s drive from Valencia. We went for a rock climb, where the town was known, sitting in the middle of the stunning faces of the cliff that shone gold when you woke up to watch the sunrise, or sit with a beer as the sun sets at night. For day -to -day activities, there are lanes to explore that lead you to the surrounding gorges, with hanging bridges, azure rivers and ancient paintings. At night, you can relax in restaurants and bars. All in all, it was a great place to catch some heat away from the UK winter and for a bit of adventure as well.

Utrecht – better than Amsterdam?

Miffy-spotting is easy in Utrecht, home of a museum about the children’s character created by Dick Bruna. Photo: Arcaid/Alamoy images

Utrecht is Amsterdam’s cool and pretty little sister, and fortunately for you, it’s still under the radar. It is one of the most beautiful, understated cities in Europe, a short train ride from Amsterdam. Think of curving cobbled streets, Dutch’s beautiful architecture, and photo-postcard canals glistening under nightlife. Miffy The Rabbit is the beloved resident of Utrecht, his creator Dick Bruna has lived here in most of his life, and the young children will love the Miffy Museum (best book). You will find Miffy’s rugged silhouette all over the city, on giant plinths and even in traffic lights. All Utrecht cycles – the city is named best in all Holland for cyclists. There is plenty to explore around the Medieval Center – by bike or foot. We liked the museums and galleries, but these are the independent eateries and quirky shops that give utrecht a special hot buzz.

Bergen, Norway, before the crowds of tag -inin

Skomydiket Lake, Bergen. Photo: Alam

While Bergen’s Fløibanen funicular is a requirement for its stunning views, most guests have dropped their photos at the top of Mount Fløyen and went straight back. But if you walk a little more in the woods, you will see the scomberdiket. A quiet lake surrounded by pine trees, perfectly in the crisp spring air. At this time of the year, before the crowds came, it was like a hidden world. We rented a canoe and slipped through the whole glassy water, the only sound was the soft sinking of paddles and echoing birds in the forest. It is the perfect place to breathe in the Norwegian’s fresh air, and one or two trolls in the woods that cause bullshit.

Scandi without scanties, Denmark and Sweden

If you want to swim, the sauna and Scandinavian socializations, a weekend in Copenhagen with Malmö thrown away are perfect. Flying to Copenhagen as a group of six friends we shared two rooms in the amazement – a wonderful next hostel of the house – well placed for the station and city center. We went to Copenhot with a relaxing sauna, incredible cityscape, hot tubs and cold plunge pools. We jumped off the train to Sweden to visit the RIBSBORGS KALLBADHUS SAUNA at Malmö and swim in the Baltic Sea. It is a liberation and experience of the soul in which we embrace the nakedness without judgment and enjoy the experience of the burning fierceness. Finally, Social Media has provided a contact with a local Copenhagen swim group that the hospitality means we, the Salty Sisters of Dunbar, can’t wait to change our usual Scottish North Sea for the Baltic Sea soon.

Marseille’s cook and wildflowers, by bicycle

The Mucem Museum. Photo: Alam

Visit Marseille in the spring to discover the unique blend of French and Northern African food and culture. The Marseille History Museum offers a wonderful introduction to the city, and do not miss the Mucem’s amazing architecture. At night joined the Bustle of Cours Julien; Eat delicious and surprisingly limmat dishes and enjoy a pastis in the square. Hite a Levélo bike and rotate the fishing harbor in Vallon Des auffes. Finally, bring the ferry to the Frioul Islands for a delicious lunch, a hike around the islands looking for wildflowers, and a sinking in the sea.
